The Village of Jacksonville is located in southern Vermont, within the Town of Whitingham in Windham County. Both the village and the electric company were incorporated in 1904 to serve the village and town residents. Jacksonville Electric Company serves a 50-square-mile service area.
The Town of Whitingham has a rich history, dating back to a time when southern Vermont was part of New York. Established in 1770, the town saw the growth of the Villages of Jacksonville and Whitingham as the population expanded. In the early 1900s, the New England Power Company built 2 hydroelectric dams, The Harriman Dam forming the scenic Harriman Reservoir, also known as Lake Whitingham, and the Sherman Dam forming Sherman Reservoir.
